US-seller rules: the 6.5% transaction fee skips sales tax; the 3% + $0.25 processing fee includes it. Offsite Ads only apply when the sale is attributed to one (capped at $100/order).

Etsy charges US sellers three stacked fees: a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on item + shipping + gift wrap, and 3% + $0.25 payment processing on the order total including tax. Offsite Ads add 15% (or 12%) on attributed orders only. (Rates verified .)

Worked example: $25 item + $5 shipping (US seller)

    1. Buyer pays $25 item + $5 shipping + $2 sales tax (Etsy collects and remits the tax).
    2. Listing fee: $0.20.
    3. Transaction fee: 6.5% of $30 (item + shipping, tax excluded for US sellers) = $1.95.
    4. Payment processing: 3% of $32 (tax included) + $0.25 = $1.21.
    5. Total Etsy fees: $3.36.

You receive $26.64 of the $30 you charged — an 11.2% total fee load before any Offsite Ads. Our unit tests assert these exact numbers against Etsy's published rules.

    Frequently asked questions

How much does Etsy take per sale?

Three fees stack on every sale: a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on item + shipping + gift wrap, and 3% + $0.25 payment processing on the order total including tax (US). On a $30 order that is $3.36 — about 11%. Rates verified 2026-07-05.

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes, twice: the 6.5% transaction fee applies to what you charge for shipping and gift wrap, and payment processing applies to the whole order including postage. Free-shipping listings avoid neither — the cost just moves into your item price.

Does Etsy charge fees on sales tax?

Partially. For US sellers the 6.5% transaction fee does NOT apply to sales tax, but the 3% + $0.25 payment processing fee is assessed on the total including tax — even though Etsy collects and remits that tax itself.

What are Etsy Offsite Ads fees and can I opt out?

When a sale is attributed to an Etsy-run offsite ad you pay 15% of the order (12% once your trailing-365-day sales reach $10,000 — and that discount is permanent), capped at $100 per order. Shops under $10k/year can opt out; above it, participation is mandatory.

How often is the Etsy listing fee charged?

$0.20 when you publish, then again every 4 months when the listing renews (auto-renew is the default), and again on each additional quantity sold in multi-quantity listings. It is charged whether or not the item sells.
