Worked example: a $50 Whatnot sale (Whatnot's own numbers)
- Final sale price: $50; with buyer-paid shipping and taxes the order total is $58.70.
- Commission: 8% of $50 = $4.00 (item price only — never shipping or tax).
- Payment processing: 2.9% of $58.70 + $0.30 = $2.00.
Net earnings: $50 − $4 − $2 = $44.00. This is Whatnot's own published example; our calculator and unit tests reproduce it to the cent.
Frequently asked questions
Which resale app has the lowest seller fees?
Depop, for US sellers — there is no selling fee at all, just 3.3% + $0.45 payment processing (≈ $2.10 on a $50 sale). Mercari takes 10% flat, Whatnot ≈ 11–12% all-in, and Poshmark 20% on anything $15 or over.
What are Whatnot's seller fees?
An 8% commission on the item's final sale price (excluding shipping and taxes; 4% for Coins & Money, and currently 0% on the portion above $1,500 in select categories) plus 2.9% + $0.30 payment processing on the total order value including shipping and tax.
Does Depop still charge a 10% selling fee?
Not for US or UK sellers — the 10% selling fee was removed for new US listings from July 15, 2024. US sellers now pay only 3.3% + $0.45 payment processing (on item + shipping + tax). The 10% fee still applies to sellers outside the UK/US, and Boosted Listings carry a separate 12% fee.
What fee does Poshmark take?
A flat $2.95 on sales under $15, or 20% on sales of $15 or more — you keep 80%. Poshmark charges the buyer for shipping directly, so shipping never passes through your payout. (The 2024 Buyer Protection Fee experiment was reversed in October 2024.)
Does Mercari charge selling fees again?
Yes. After briefly dropping selling fees in 2024, Mercari moved to a flat 10% selling fee on item price + buyer-paid shipping for listings created or updated from January 6, 2025 — but retired the old 2.9% + $0.50 payment processing fee at the same time, so 10% is the whole seller-side story.
